Wheeler employees in Austin, Texas partnered with the National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC) to engage with young future engineers at the 2018 Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day.
Visitors to the Wheeler booth were challenged to build a structurally sound tower out of sheets of paper and masking tape. Volunteers coached the young visitors with fun engineering concepts and ways to build their towers as tall as possible while still holding weight. Towers spanned from a foot tall to nearly 10 feet high.
Over 8,000 elementary and middle school children attended the event, which was hosted at the University of Texas Women in Engineering Program and is part of the national Engineers Week celebration.
