Veterans Day Profile: Robert D.

Military Service

U.S. Army – 4 years

National Guard – 2 years

Reserves – 2 years

What led you to join the military?

I joined to serve and protect my country and family. It was the # 1 best thing I have ever done in my life. I wanted to travel the world and see the seven seas.

How has your military service impacted your life?

I was the best decision I have ever made. I met my wife in Germany and we have been married this month 35 years. There are so many things that I have been impacted by, but this is by far the most important one.

What is something you learned in the military that you still use today?

Teamwork, brotherhood, honor, discipline, respect, putting the team before self, can-do Esprit de Corps, run to not from, forward-thinking, trust, never forget where you come from, and always lead the way.

Anything you would like to add?

My MOS or job description was 63 bravo (mechanic). One of my biggest accomplishments was being hand-picked to work a BMO battalion maintenance. That is where you become a trainer. This has carried on into my civilian life and I’m thankful every day that I had honor to serve my country.
