Truck Driver Appreciation Week – Meet Américo, End Dump Truck Driver

It’s Truck Driver Appreciation Week! In our business, nothing happens without our drivers. To show our gratitude, we’re spotlighting some of our incredible drivers. Keep reading to learn more about Américo.

How did you get started driving?

I started driving at the age of 21 in a car owned by my father. At the age of 27, I got my CDL and started driving a dump truck with a trailer attached.

Tell us a bit about what you do.

I’ve been with Gulf Coast (originally Century Materials) since 2014, and I drive an end dump truck hauling and delivering all types of aggregates (hot mix asphalt, sand, gravel, demo concrete) to all of our job sites in the Houston area.

What do you enjoy most about your job?

Some of my favorite things about driving are that you have the opportunity to learn new things every day, you help many people, and you have the right to work freely. Every day brings something new: a new destination, a different kind of material to haul, and a new job site. I enjoy knowing that my work is helping build projects that my community will benefit from.

What do you like about working for Gulf Coast?

It is a company with a great future for all people who want to start a career that also offers stability.

Any advice for those looking to get into a driving career?

You have to be dedicated to your work, be safe at all times and take care of yourself and others. It is a very beautiful career, but you have to have a lot of dedication and love your job.
