The National Asphalt Pavement Association, also known as NAPA, announced today that our very own TexasBit has won the 2017 Quality in Construction Award for excellence in construction of an asphalt pavement.
The award was granted for our innovative work on U.S. Route 81 in Montague County, Texas.
The overlay project required three different types of asphalt mixes, all produced at our newly-constructed asphalt plant. What made this project a unique challenge for TexasBit was that each mix required completely different construction methods and techniques.
Not only was the project’s success the result of creative problem-solving, we got creative with our asphalt mix, incorporating green paving techniques into the project. Texas Bit used 3 percent recycled asphalt shingles and 17 percent reclaimed asphalt pavement in the mixes. This conserved natural resources and saved money. And if we may say so, the completed road has a very stable, very smooth ride.
We received the award today at a ceremony during NAPA’s 63rd Annual Meeting in San Diego, California, which was presided by 2017 NAPA Chairman Dan Gallagher. Gallagher himself had many kind words to praise TexasBit.
